Workshop: Getting New Zealand Writers into Wikipedia

Workshop: Getting New Zealand Writers into Wikipedia

Saturday 8 June 2019, 10:30am—4:00pm

Famously, anyone can edit a Wikipedia article. But many newcomers are surprised to find their contributions being brusquely corrected or even deleted by people they’ve never met. Learn how Wikipedia works, the rules and guidelines, how to write for an encyclopaedia, and how to make your edits and new articles stick. In this workshop, we’ll be trying to improve articles on New Zealand writers, which are often in a woeful state. This will be a hands-on session, so bring a laptop.

We are fortunate to welcome Dr Mike Dickison, NZ Wikipedian at Large, on a one-year grant from the Wikimedia Foundation to help people and institutions better engage with Wikipedia.

Morning and afternoon tea will be provided.
