Meet at Khandallah Park, by children’s play area, Woodmancote Road, Khandallah.
Combine raising funds for the Hospice with a walk to the summit of Mt Kau Kau and sweeping views of the harbour, the Rimutaka ranges and the hills around Wellington. On a good day you will see the South Island.
The aim of the hike is to raise funds for the Hospice and remember a loved one. And for those that want to make a day of it, the park has many excellent picnic spots including a swimming pool, children’s playground and Cafe.
Summit for someone
Whilst this is an opportunity to reach the summit for someone and raise money for the Hospice, it isn’t limited to those whose friends or family members have used the Hospice services. The hike is for anyone who wants to raise funds for the Hospice and enjoy an iconic Wellington walk.
If you are summiting for someone – why not invite others that knew the person along to join you and fundraise for the Hospice.
The hike starts at Khandallah Park (from Woodmancote entrance). The return walk is 6ks. The walk to the summit of Mt Kau Kau is steep in parts (a few stairs) and the walk is likely to take 30 minutes for fitter people and 45 minutes for those less fit. At the top there will be a short remembrance ceremony led by a Mary Potter Hospice Spiritual Carer and we encourage people to bring something for lunch. The walk down may take 15 to 30 minutes – depending on fitness.
Registration
You need to pre-register for the event.
Registration fee includes a free Sistema Drink bottle for each paid registrant:
- $15 per adult
- $5 per child 8-18 yrs
- Free children under 8
- $30 Family (2 adults & 2 children)
How do I fundraise?

You can then email the link to the people you would like to invite to sponsor you, such as friends, family and colleagues.
If you would like to create your fundraising page please go to http://www.fundraiseonline.co.nz and select the quicklink ‘create a fundraising page’ and ‘fundraise for a charity’ then follow the steps to create your own individual fundraising page.
