An Evening with Jung Chang brings the best-selling author to Christchurch to deliver a stunning multi-media talk about her latest work, the ground-breaking biography 'Empress Dowager Cixi, the Concubine Who Launched Modern China'.

Empress Dowager Cixi (1835-1908) is the most important woman in Chinese history. She ruled China for decades and brought a medieval empire into the modern age.

The evening includes a special presentation, audience Q & A and book signing.

Jung Chang is the best-selling author of 'Wild Swans' (1991), which detailed the lives of three generations of women in her family, and 'Mao: The Unknown Story' (2005), described by Time magazine as 'an atom bomb of a book'. Her books have been translated into more than 40 languages and sold more than 15 million copies outside mainland China where they have been banned. She was born in China in 1952, moved to Britain in 1978, and now lives in London.
